Riverbank Public School is located in the scenic suburb of The Ponds, Western Sydney. When the school began to experience an increase in student numbers, ProGroup Management was commissioned to help them meet capacity demands. The school requested a two-storey building, which they were well equipped to design and construct.
The main challenge with this project was constructing a two-storey building in an extremely short period of time, seeing that the school had critical needs to accommodate an increase in students. ProGroup also faced with the issue of how to overcome restricted access to the school grounds from the busy street front.
In response to the access problem, a fenced-off access route was made available for construction vehicles, trucks and cranes, but this was still within school grounds, so the safety of children, parents and staff had to be at the forefront of all activity, at all times. Strictly timed and well coordinated schedules for deliveries and truck movements were planned and ensured no students, families, teachers or our staff were ever at risk. The solution to the request for a double-storey school building was to use single demountable module units with ramp access on the upper level to the adjoining building.
An innovative and strategic approach was applied to this job by delivering and installing each unit in a specific and predetermined order so there was limited construction material on site at any time, and to ensure the prefabricated walkways and stairways joined together seamlessly.
The entire project was completed, commissioned and handed over safely, on time and within budget, to the satisfaction of School Infrastructure NSW.
