In 2016, Homebush West Public School needed temporary school facilities during their rebuilding program. Of course, ProGroup Management immediately jumped on board to assist with first-rate construction and project management.
Unique to this project was that the NSW Department of Education had never built a two-storey structure using demountable modules. In addition, the building needed to be fitted with an external lift for disability access. Construction was to commence in September 2016 and be completed in time for the start of school in 2017.
ProGroup enthusiastically set to work installing more than 80 singular modules to make up the entire two-story building. Being the first of its kind at the time, ProGroup had to create an innovative new design and obtain approval for the two-storey demountable school facility. Their expert team decided to install the stairway externally to the building between the walkways and service both levels. They also added weather-protected stairwells and covered walkways between the levels, and externally wrapped the structure in a decorative, child-focused wrap to lift the building’s appearance. A multi-coloured soft-fall play area was also installed at the front of the building.
The piers and footings were specially designed for this project, which required more than the normal for single-story demountable module construction. The individual modules were delivered to the site singularly and then purposefully assembled in a predetermined order to ensure the prefabricated walkways and stairways joined together perfectly.
This was a project that allowed ProGroup to flex their innovative capabilities and create a solution to help lead new construction techniques for this sector. ProGroup proudly completed and handed over this first-of-its-kind singular module project on time, to a very happy School Infrastructure NSW.
