ProGroup Management refurbished the pedestrian lift at Caringbah Train Station to make sure this busy suburban station has a safe, reliable and modern lift for commuters.
As Caringbah is a busy suburban train station, the schedule of works had to be meticulously planned to avoid any unnecessary inconvenience to passengers and staff. Also, removal of the old lift required access to the train tracks which were constantly in use during the day. With the safety of passengers, Sydney Trains personnel and ProGroup staff as top priority, ProGroup had to come up with a solution to ensure work was completed within the 8 week deadline in a way that minimised any potential risks.
The new lift had to be efficient, reliable and visually appealing to represent Sydney Trains as a modern and professional public service.
Working closely with the people at Sydney Trains, ProGroup’s specialist team was able to purposefully schedule works during normal hours, and after hours, in a pattern that caused the minimum disruption to daily commuter activity.
Removal of the original lift and delivery and installation of the new lift required access to the train tracks. Working with Sydney Trains, the specialist team at ProGroup Management used highly specialised hi-rail trucks designed to run on the train lines during night rail possession at specifically allocated times so there was no disruption to train services nor any risk to personnel working on the tracks.
The lift shaft and lift motor room were fully stripped, patched, and painted, including ceilings, and waterproofing of the lift pit. New structural steel brackets and lifting beams were installed in the lift shaft for installation of new lift rails and equipment. The lift car, structural members and lift control gear were all assembled on site within the lift shaft and lift motor room. Electrical works entailed replacing the submain cable and circuit breaker, and new Cat 6 cables were installed for communications, lift alarm system, CCTV and lift phone. A new mechanical ventilation system was installed, as well as new smoke detectors and upgrade of the lighting.
The external cladding on the lift shaft was replaced with Vitrapanels and new stainless reveals were installed to dress up the lift facades on the street and platform levels.
Through excellent teamwork and an exceptional relationship with Sydney Trains, the project was completed on time and safely without any incidents. Post contract items included preparation and submission of as built drawings and certifications.
