The Department of Education approached ProGroup Management to construct a temporary site for Alexandria Park High School. Impressively, our experienced project team rounded its resources into action and had the site established and early works commenced within just 2 weeks
In addition to undertaking this large-scale project in a live environment, ProGroup’s project team faced various challenges during the early works construction. One of them was having to build around numerous large trees with the mandate to protect and retain the trees and their root systems.
Progroup was alerted to the discovery of asbestos fragments within the site, this posed a safety hazard for both the school and contractors. Progroup was able to find a solution that suited both, and the works were able to proceed.
The third problem came up when work on the foundations, noticing that the ground had pieces of broken concrete, steel railway sleepers and old fuel tanks buried beneath the surface. Needless to say, this led to a delay in the building process; however, ProGroup Management refused to give up and pushed on to meet their client’s deadlines.
The site was also traversed by a major Sydney Water stormwater drain and required liaison and planning with Sydney Water for approval to carry out the works adjacent to the drain.
This project took some serious problem-solving combined with a professional and collaborative approach to overcome the obstacles. In the end, ProGroup successfully overcame a host of unusual challenges and handed over the school in time for the 2018 school year.
