Chatswood Public School and Chatswood High School facilities are being upgraded as part of the NSW Government School Infrastructure Building Project. To facilitate this commitment to provide improved education facilities to support the student community there was a need to relocate many students into temporary accommodation for both the Public and High Schools. ProGroup Management were engaged to construct the temporary accommodation which involved the placement, and commissioning of 72 specialised Demountable buildings throughout the grounds of the School.
The project commenced in October 2020 and continued through the design and eventual construction phase spanning 5 stages to a successful completion in mid-April 2021. The difficulties and challenges faced by our project management and construction teams with this project included, design of building structures to bridge over Sydney Water easements containing underground sewer mains and Council stormwater lines, design of building foundations and piers to withstand low volume 1 in 100 year flooding, installation of electrical and communications supply pathways around the existing buildings and landscape, design and installation of electrical boards and hydraulics services including sewer pumps to service the temporary schools. All these challenges were achieved whilst working within an operational school and around a large synthetic playing field that remained open to the public and surrounding residents during construction.
The completed buildings included classrooms, staff rooms, canteens, fully fitted textiles room and home science room for TAS, computer labs, accessible toilets, and a science laboratory. They were fitted out with furniture, access to Data and Wi-fi and were airconditioned. All the buildings were linked with covered decks and walkways, stairs, and accessibility complaint ramps.
