ProGroup Management was engaged to construct temporary School facilities to house students and staff to assist with the School re-building program. The unique design and first of its kind for the NSW Department of Education was to construct a two storey structure using Demountable Modules. The building was to be fitted with an external lift for disability access and construction was to commence in September 2016 and be completed, commissioned and handed over ready for the start of school in the new year of 2017.
The project involved the installation of in excess of 80 singular modules making up the two story building. The Lift was installed externally to the building between the walkways and serviced both levels. Covered walkways and weather protected stairwells between the levels were also added. The entire structure was externally covered in a decorative and child focused wrap to lift the appearance of the building. A multi coloured soft fall play area was also installed at the front of the building. The challenge faced by ProGroup as the installers was the introduction of the two-story structure as opposed to the single level buildings that required a new design feature and structural approval. The footings and piers were specially designed for this installation which required more than the normal for single story demountable module construction. The individual modules were delivered to site singularly and then put together in a predetermined order to ensure the prefabricated walkways and stairwells joined. The entire project was completed, commissioned and handed over on time to the satisfaction of School Infrastructure NSW as the first of its kind in NSW using the single Modular units.
