Over the lifetime of the business Progroup has been involved in a continuum of heritage building solutions with clients such as the Department of Education Training across NSW, Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority throughout the Sydney Rocks area and Darling Harbour, State Rail Authority at various Sydney locations and, Sydney University campus at Camperdown.
Most of our heritage work is carried out in high public traffic areas where safety and courtesy are paramount. We are proud to say that notwithstanding, we have not received a single complaint.
Each project breathes new life into old buildings while still maintaining the integrity of its history. The number of projects runs into the hundreds and to single just one out, the removal, refurbishment and reinstallation to the old gates on the original Pyrmont Bridge at Darling Harbour serves as an example where planning, trade skill, programming, scheduling, execution, protection of the public and consideration for the boat users had to be of the highest order.
The work itself presented more than a few challenges. All of the timbers had to be replaced using strong durable lightweight pine and all the existing wrought iron hinges, gate hardware and bracing had to be refurbished and reused. The four main road traffic gates together with their respective pedestrian gates were done in sequence involving a removal overnight on a Sunday leaving temporary gates in their place. They were then transported to the factory, completed and reinstalled on the following Thursday night. All gates were then functional over the weekend and on the Sunday night the team returned to commence the next cycle.
